"When one tugs at a single thing in nature,
he finds it attached to the rest of the world." — John Muir
about Anna . . .
Having had a professional career working with children of all ages adds a playfulness to Anna's teaching style. Heart-centered and energizing, Anna's classes focus on self-acceptance and making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical challenges.
Anna has taught over 4,800 hours of yoga. She studied with Erich Schiffmann, Doug Swenson, Paul Grilley, Doug Keller, and Seane Corn. She was co-founder of Simple Abundance Yoga in Johnson City, Tennessee, taught in several yoga studios throughout Northern and Southern California and was an integral part of the mission of Asheville Community Yoga since its inception in 2010. She is registered through the Yoga Alliance with an e-RYT and an additional YACEP designation (Yoga Alliance Certified Education Provider). Prior to the pandemic, she served as part of the teaching faculty of Asheville Community Yoga, facilitating the Foundations of Yoga Series and co-facilitating the Immersion Program, as well as serving as a part of the 250 hour Teacher Training Certification program. She currently offers weekly classes at the beautiful Weaverville Community Center, as well as offering private & group instruction, zoom classes online, and is excited about offering workshops and yoga classes at French Broad River Farms beginning in the spring of 2025.
Students often comment on Anna's gentle spirit and compassionate style of teaching. Although Anna has been in practice since childhood, she did not begin to teach until she was diagnosed with a debilitating auto-immune disease. Being in the practice helped Anna focus outside of the challenges her body was facing and focus on what was actually working right for her - breath, mindfulness, and even, eventually balance and strength! After eleven years of continuous neurological symptoms, Anna can happily say that she has been symptom free for over 14 years.
When not teaching yoga, Anna enjoys time in nature, hiking, gardening, photography and cooking. She loves spending quiet time with her husband, Bob, her daughter, Kaya, and her dogs, Gryff and Winston. She refers to herself as being in a state of perpetual gratitude, finding joy in observing, serving, and connecting from her heartspace.
"I have experienced education from Anna in many forms. Taking classes she has instructed, observing the graceful way in which she leads others, through the kindness she shows when you walk in the door. It has been nothing but my up most pleasure anytime I interact with Anna. She is yoga embodied." ~ Timothy Berger, yoga instructor, massage therapist, entrepreneur (New Earth Entrepreneurs)
